About Me: Bernhard Frey is the Senior Manager on SDG Impact and Reporting at the United Nations Global Compact Office, where he leads the work on the Action Platform Reporting on the SDGs and the Global Compact’s communication on progress (the organization’s reporting requirements towards its business participants). The Action Platform is multi-stakeholder initiative co-lead with GRI that aims to promote effective corporate reporting on the SDGs. Previously, he was a manager for the environment and climate at the UN Global Compact and the secretariat of Caring for Climate, an initiative of the UN Secretary-General, where he supported business engagement with the UN climate and sustainable development agendas and oversaw the team’s work on adaptation and reporting. Prior to that he supported civil society engagement with UN sustainable development processes as a sustainability manager and the focal point for ‘Rio+20’ at the UN Non-governmental Liaison Service. Before joining the United Nations, Mr. Frey worked for several years with GIZ as an advisor on environmental policy to the German Ministry for Development and Economic Cooperation and to the Ministry for the Environment of Mali. He was also project assistant at the Economic and Social Committee of the European Union (EESC) in Brussels and at the Barcelona Centre for International Affairs (CIDOB). Mr. Frey holds a Master’s degree in political science, as well as certificates of German, Spanish, French and American universities.
